character name: Magnus Bane
Fandom: The Mortal Instruments
Timeline: Taken after City of Fallen Angels
character's age: Somewhere over 800 years old; appears to be 19
powers, skills, pets and equipment: Being a warlock, Magnus has extensive magical powers. He is the High Warlock of Brooklyn, meaning that he is a very powerful warlock. Many different species come to him for help with tasks and jobs they can’t do themselves. He uses his magic for a number of things, including powering his home appliances and getting Starbucks without moving from his spot. He’s quite skilled at healing magic and tracking spells. He knows several different languages, having been alive for so long and traveled to so many different places.
However, there are some limitations to his magic. When dealing with more powerful spells, he gets exhausted. Magic takes energy, and that’s something Magnus doesn’t have infinite amounts of. His spells can also be interfered with by other powerful magics.
In his possession, he has several spell books, including the very powerful Book of White, a spell book made by warlocks for warlocks. This book has a list of powerful and rare spells, including one to reverse a coma-like curse of a very powerful warlock. It’s also been hinted to have a spell to turn somebody immortal. He also has a pet cat named Chairman Meow. Magnus is pretty attached to him. Often times, the Chairman’s approval dictates whether or not Magnus will date a specific person. Magnus will not date people his cat doesn’t approve of.
So, in a nutshell, Magnus will be keeping all powers upon arriving in Scorched, he won’t gain any new ones, but they’ll definitely be affected by the mist. He’ll be arriving with his cat, and his spell books will arrive through the door later on.
canon history: Wiki page
personality: Living for over 800 years can do a lot to one's personality. What it's done for Magnus Bane is make him confident beyond belief. His self-esteem is incredibly high, so much so that he's often considered arrogant or cocky. There isn't a single doubt in his mind that he's good-looking, with or without all of his make-up and glitter. Not only is he confident in his looks, but he's also confident in his powers. He's very aware of the fact that he's a powerful warlock. Sometimes, he'll even go as far as to remind people just what he can do with his powers. He's secure enough in himself that he often flaunts his sexuality (he’s a self-proclaimed “freewheeling bisexual) by wearing tight clothes, rainbow, leather, and large amounts of glitter in his hair, on his face, and splashed onto his clothes. He does nothing to hide his demon marks, his golden-green cat eyes and lack of a belly-button. He flirts shamelessly with whoever he pleases without the fear of being rejected, simply because he usually isn't. He's very used to getting what he wants when it comes to people.
Being alive for so long has also given him a sense of adventure. He gets bored easily, and as a result, has had to find something to keep him entertained. A lot of the time, it's the people he surrounds himself with who entertain him the most. After all, the most unpredictable thing in the world is the human race. They never fail to surprise him. One of his favorite things to do is try to pull reactions out of them. He’ll say things to make them stumble and trip over their words in an attempt to form a response. Magnus, though, is never at a loss for words. Overall, he just likes to have fun; when he does, the joy is always clear in his eyes.
Despite his fun-loving personality and snarky comments, he's very wise. He's been through many situations, having lived for so long. He never fails to learn valuable lessons from them. He has a thirst for knowledge, and he'll never get tired of learning new things. Whether it's spells, facts, trivia, or scientific discoveries, he'll want to know about them. He likes keeping a foot in the door with all kinds of species (Shadowhunters, vampires, werewolves, fairies, and even humans) so that he always knows what’s going on. He's accepting and respectful of every species, not only because he believes in equality, but also to stay on their good side, because he's a very peaceful warlock. Those whom he befriends have gained a loyal friend. While he won’t do favors for most people, he’ll do them for the people he really cares about. He holds a seemingly endless amount of patience when he needs it, and rarely does his temper get away from him. Unfortunately, when it does, it often presents itself in iced, finely minced words, molded and sharpened to strike whoever he’s talking to right where it hurts. He’ll never apologize right away (because sometimes he lets his pride get the better of him), but when he does, it’s always an “I’m sorry,” accompanied by an extravagant gift. Nobody can ever say he does things small.
Magnus is pretty open with his emotions when it comes to the people he trusts the most. It's rare for him to hide it when he's hurt, angry, or upset when he’s around said people. Though, while he's open about his emotions, he's very closed off about his past. He doesn't like talking about it, not even to those who are closest to him. He doesn't think the past should matter, not when you can live in the present. He has a fairly cynical view of the world. His fascination with humans has taught him that most of them are inherently selfish, and that they often only do things when there’s something in it for them. Granted, he doesn’t often do things when there’s nothing in it for him, but it’s part of his job to require payment for the things he does.
He’s claimed to be a lover, not a fighter. Parts of his history are dark; he has blood on his hands, skeletons in the closet, and he’s done things he’s not very proud of. If he can help it, he’ll refrain from fighting, from being violent. He’s far more inclined to work things out with words. That said, he has fought in wars before (namely the Uprising, a war that took place in his world between Downworlders like himself and a group of Shadowhunters sworn to wipe out all the Downworlders), and he’ll do it again if he feels like his life, his freedom, or his loved ones are at risk.
His almost year long stay in Anatole the first time only taught him a few things. Namely, don’t drink with your boyfriend’s sister, unless you want to end up accidentally kissing her and have the whole situation explode in your face later. Also, not telling said boyfriend about said kiss is a very bad idea, even if the chances of him finding out are slim to none. Because he will find out and he will be pissed. He’s also given himself the title High Warlock of Anatole, and he’ll be damned if he lets anybody take that away from him.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
Magnus, being a warlock, has nearly unlimited magical powers. I believe he would be appropriate to this setting for that reason. He has powers that could be momentarily lost when the mist comes in. It’s also possible that his powers could grow when the mist comes along.
The world he comes from and the things he’s gone through are pretty dark. Sadly, situations like these are somewhat similar to ones he’s already gone through in the grim, creepy factor.

Third Person Sample: Waking up in an unfamiliar room in an unfamiliar bed isn’t a first for Magnus, or even a second or third. It’s just that it hasn’t happened in so long. That kind of behavior is something he grew out of hundreds of years ago. So why is it that he’s finding himself in such a situation?
Magnus pulls himself out of bed, pressing the heel of his hand to his aching head. At least there’s nobody there to wake up to. Talk about awkward.
“Meow.”
A cat (his cat) jumps up onto the bed, looking up at Magnus with large gold eyes. What on earth is his cat doing in a stranger’s room? Unless... the room doesn’t belong to a stranger. Maybe it belongs to him.
He goes to the window and yanks the curtain back.
“London?” Of course, that’s where his mind goes first. London is full of familiarity, excitement, and heartache. He can smell the gas lamps and hear the horses’ hooves on the cobblestone paths. He remembers the parties, remembers a boy with unruly black hair and alarming blue eyes. He remembers a girl with brown hair and a torn up life.
But no, this isn’t London. There’s something off about this place. The people walking below aren’t dressed quite right. Some of them are dressed from completely different eras.
Taking an unsteady step back from the window, Magnus exhales slowly. If this is the result of magic, he’s never heard of a spell that can do this. This isn’t time travel or portaling. There is nowhere on the planet Earth like this place. He would know, with how much he travels around it.
So is it a completely different world?
“Well, there’s only one way to find out, isn’t there, Chairman?” He turns to look at his cat, who just blinks. “First things first: find something else to wear. Then... well, then we explore.”
Anything else? I played Magnus here once before, for almost a year. This is a reapp.
